Apple MacBook The Best Thing to Buy

Apple MacBook Air Laptop

Though news concerning Apple’s much anticipated MacBook Air laptop, which claims the much celebrated mantle of being the world’s thinnest laptop, is resounding throughout tech and gadget sites the world over – and understandably so – we simply couldn’t help but post a brief entry on TFTS concerning the device – simply because, from an aesthetic standpoint alone, the aluminium cased MacBook Air is yet another example of Apple’s design eloquence (it really is stunning).

Measuring a mere 0.16” and 0.76” in thickness and weighing just 1.36kg the MacBook air, which is powered by either a 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz Intel Core Duo Processor with 4MB Level 2 cache, may be supremely thin but, as one would expect, it certainly doesn’t skimp on features in sporting a 13.3” backlit LED 1280 x 800 widescreen display, integrated Intel GMA X3100 graphics, a full size QWERTY keyboard (also backlit), an inbuilt video camera and a generously proportioned trackpad that supports multi-touch and gesture recognition.

As far as memory and storage capacity are concerned, the MacBook Air offers 2GB of RAM – which, interestingly, according to various reports appears to not be upgradeable – and a 1.8” 80GB 4200rpm PATA HDD – solid state 64GB SSD drive is also offered as an option for a further $999 – whilst from a connectivity standpoint the device naturally offers 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and a micro-DVI connection (allowing you to hook the device up to an external monitor) though, surprisingly, just a single USB port is featured and those looking for Firewireand Ethernet support out of the box will find the device wholly lacking (though a USB to Ethernet adapter can be purchased separately). As a side note, we should add that, contrary to what a number of sites we have seen are reporting, the MacBook Air does have an audio port (a fact supported by an image provided on the official Apple MacBook Air website).

Offering a purported battery life of around 5 hours (with Wi-Fi active), Apple’s MacBook Air will become available at the end of the month as is already available to pre order with the 1.6GHz model retailing for $1799 and the 1.8GHz model with 64GB solid state drive retailing for $3098 at the time of writing.
